The Florida Board of Education is set to finalize a groundbreaking rule change next week that will allow high school athletes to profit from their name, image, and likeness (NIL). This decision follows the Florida High School Athletic Association’s (FHSAA) recent approval, aligning the state with a growing national trend.
Under the new regulations, student-athletes will have the autonomy to negotiate NIL deals independently, without school or district involvement. A significant departure from previous restrictions, high school athletes will now be permitted to hire registered agents for NIL-related advice.
The proposed rule, if approved, will position Florida among the forefront of states enabling high school athletes to capitalize on their athletic abilities. This move comes on the heels of similar legislation granting college athletes NIL rights.
